How to Keep Your Chin Up When You Don’t Have Time to Find Your Face
Wednesday, January 27th, 2010Lately, with everything that’s happening in the world, in regards to the devastation in Haiti and the fact that Mercury was in retrograde, it has been difficult to find inspiration and remain positive. Therefore, I decided to address ways to spiritually feel the happy vibe. One of the main reasons why I believe that there’s an increase in the the diagnosis of depression and other mental health-related labels, is that people have forgotten to do the most essential components of living, which is to breathe. Of course, for most of us, breathing is an involuntary act, that transpires with little of our knowledge unless we’re having difficulty with it. However, this is not the type of breathing I’m talking about. Breathing, from my definition, is an act where you breathe in air as deeply as possible to replenish the cells in your body, with the proper oxygenation. In the hurry and rush of our everyday life, most people function with very shallow breath habits. The oxygen increases circulation, decreases the level of bad bacteria in the body, and regulates positive functioning of the chemicals in the brain which contribute to our positive emotions such as happiness, contentment and peace. Now, some people, when they hear me speak of breathing, will automatically assume that I’m recommending that they get in a yoga position, hold their hands face up on their knees and start chanting, “Om.” This is the other extreme, which is fabulous if you have the skills and time to partake in this practice. Although, most of us do not. So, if we can remember to take at least eight deep breaths throughout the day, we will increase our well-being dramatically over time. Try to remember to take one deep breath per hour. Making this small change will give your mind enough time to register and prevent counterproductive reactions to others in your environment. The other thing to remind yourself every now and again, is that as long as you have good intentions for yourself and others, the universe will work in your favor, and there is always light at the end of the tunnel, only sometimes the light comes through as a beacon filling up all of the darkness and sometimes the light is like the dim remnants of a flashlight whose batteries are about to die. But, the point is to keep seeking the light, remember to breathe and, most importantly, I garauntee, almost 100%, your chin is where you last left it.
